’Diggers announce weekly awards

Montana Tech football coach Bob Green announced the Oredigger
player of the week awards Sunday.
Offensive honors went to 5-foot-11, 201-pound junior running back Teague Egan, who had 23 carries for 92 yards in Tech’s 17-10 loss to Northern Saturday.

Defensive kudos were collected by junior outside linebacker J.J. Perino.
The 6-1, 221-pounder had four solo tackles, four
assisted tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss Saturday.
Special team awards went to 6-2, 189-pound sophomore Zach Soukup, who returned two kickoffs for 55 yards against the Lights.

The Montana Tech football coaching staff has chosen its weekly player of-the-week honorees following Saturday’s 14-7 heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Carroll College on the Alumni Coliseum turf.
Head coach Bob Green announced that the selections were Casey Kelly on offense, Jared Koskela on defense and Dan Kleckner on special teams.
Kelly is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior wide receiver out of Butte Central. He caught 10 passes for 97 yards to give him 68 for the year, breaking the Orediggers’ single-season record of 67 Davis Almanza set in 1997. Koskela, a 6-1, 241-pound senior inside linebacker from Thompson Falls, made seven solo tackles and had two assists.
“He did a great job against the Saints running game,” Green said.
Kleckner is a 5-11, 195-pound senior kicker and punter from Mead, Wash.
He punted nine times against Carroll and averaged 40.6 yards per boot. Three of his punts were downed inside the Saints’ 20-yard line, two inside the 10.
“And he had a 52-yarder when we absolutely needed to improve our field position,” Green said.

Oredigger head football coach Bob Green announced on Sunday night the players of the week who emerged from Tech’s 23-16 win over Rocky Mountain College.
On offense, running back Teague Egan (5-11, 201) from Great Falls earned recognition for his 29
carries and one touchdown. Egan ran for 132 yards.
Defensively, junior Josh Kling
(6-0, 191) chalked up two tackles, one assist, and two interceptions. Kling from Butte also was credited with breaking up another pass play.
Cole Salo (5-10, 181), a sophomore defensive back from Butte High, returned two punts for
45 yards to earn the special-teams’ honor for the week.
The Orediggers travel to LaGrande, Oregon, for a 1 p.m. matchup against Eastern Oregon on Saturday.

Oredigger football coach Bob Green released the names of the Player of the Week for Tech’s 16-8 loss from Carroll College.
Casey Kelly (5-11, 192) from Butte, was given offensive honors with his
10 catches for 75 yards and great blocking.
Devensive honors went to Kyle Carter (6-2, 263) from Shelby with his six solo tackles, five assisted tackles and one tackle for loss of yards.
Cole Salo (5-10, 181) from Butte notched the special teams honors with two punt returns for
37 yards.
Montana Tech will face MSU-Northern Saturday in Butte.
Egan, Perino, Bennett recieve weekley honors

Oredigger football coach Bob Green released the names of the Players of the Week for Tech’s 34-7 win over UM-Western.
Running back, Teague Egan (5-foot-11, 201) from Helena was given offensive honors for the second week in a row. The junior workhorse lugged 234 yards on 18 carries along with two touchdowns.
Once again, Tech’s defensive player of the week was outside linebacker J.J. Perino (6-1, 201), also from Helena. Perino, had 13 tackles — 11 solo tackles and two assisted — to go along with constant pressure on Western quarterback Justin Blome.
On special teams, Green gave the nod to long snapper Colter Bennett, a six-foot freshman from Kalispell. “Colter has been outstanding, not only against Western, but for the entire season,” he said.

Oredigger football coach Bob Green released the names of the Players of the Week for the Tech’s 17-10 win over Eastern Oregon.
Teague Egan (5-11, 201) from Helena was given offensive honors with his 15 carries for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Defensive player of the week was J.J. Perino (6-1, 201) from Helena. “Perino had six solo tackles, five for lost yardage. He tipped two passes, and he had one assisted tackle,” reported coach Green.
On special teams was standout defensive back Cole Salo (5-10, 181) who returned five punts for a total of 73 yards which was 14 yards per return.
The Orediggers face UM Western on Saturday in Butte.
Tech Football players of the Week

Montana Tech head football coach Bob Green released the Players of the Week for the Orediggers’ 24-13 win over Rocky Mountain College Saturday.
Senior offensive lineman Chad Erwin
(6-foot-2, 262 pounds), a Butte High graduate, anchored the offensive front.
“He was key in setting up Tech’s 140 rushing yards and 113 passing yards in the win over Rocky Mountain College,” Green said. “His run block and pass block was key.”
Defense player of week was sophomore Cole Salo (5-10, 181), also a Butte High grad, with 8 solo tackles, one assist, two passes broken up and an interception from his defensive back position.
Sophomore receiver Zach Soukup (6-2, 189), of Sheridan, Wyo., returned 1 kickoff for 49 yards and had two solo tackles on kickoff coverage for the special teams honor.

Junior wide receiver Casey Kelly (5-foot-9, 172 pounds) had 3 catches for 23 yards and showed some good blocking for Montana Tech’s head football coach Bob Green’s nod as the offensive player of the week in the 34-0 oredigger loss against Southern Utah Saturday.
Senior inside linebacker Jared Koskela (6-1, 241) had nine tackles and assisted on three others to get the defensive award.
Finally, junior running back Cory Warner (6-2, 222) returned 2 kick offs for a total of 52 yards for the special teams honor.
