Tech Golf Struggles In Helena

Rocky Mountain golfers swept the team titles in the Carroll Invitational Frontier Conference college golf tournament held Monday and Tuesday at the Green Meadow Country Club.

The Rocky Mountain men had 855 strokes to win by 15 over Montana State-Billings, a non-Frontier school invited to the tournament. Lewis-Clark State was the next Frontier Conference team. It scored 889. Montana Tech finished 6th out of the 9 teams playing and currently sit in 5th place on the Men’s side of the Frontier Conference.

The Rocky Mountain women carded 968 strokes for the 54-hole play, winning by 14 strokes over Lewis-Clark State. Host Carroll placed third with 1,018. Montana Tech finished 6th out of the 9 teams competing in this tourney. The Women currently sit in 6th place in the Frontier Conference Standing as well.

The men's event saw Marcus Segerstrom of Rocky Mountain win a sudden death playoff over Jeff Allen and Jacob Good for the individual title. Allen, of MSU-Billings and Dillon, and Good, of Rocky Mountain, matched 213s to tie Segerstrom through regulation play. Montana Tech was led by Wes Southard with a 233.

The women's winner was Courtney Shrout of Lewis-Clark State with a 77s triplicate for a 231 score. Rachel Hosterman of Rocky Mountain shot a 236 for second place while Emily Slayton of Carroll was third with a 239. Montana Tech was led by Emily Watson with a 287.

The Orediggers will next compete with the Rocky Mountain Frontier Conference Tourney in Billings, MT. The tourney will take place at Peter Yegen Golf Course on September 27th and 28th. The Orediggers hope to make some improvement on their placings from the opening tourney.
