BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech head women's basketball coach
Carly VanDyke-Sanon announced three additions to her recruiting class today. The Orediggers add two junior college transfers and one Montana high school product to the roster for 2016-17.
"I am excited to announce we are adding three more players to our roster," said VanDyke-Sanon. "We are not only adding great players to our program but also excellent students."
Transferring from North Idaho College, Monica Landdeck started every game in two seasons as a Cardinal. She was selected second team All-Conference last season averaging 9.7 points and 2.4 rebounds.
"Monica is a long, athletic, complete guard. She is a great three point shooter and can get to the basket and score. She is also a tenacious defender. Monica adds depth to our guard position and fits well into our style of play."
Landdeck can light up the scoreboard. She received the Scenic West Conference Player of the Week award at NIC putting up 29 points during the regular season. During the conference tournament, she netted seven three pointers against Bellevue College and was named the Tournament MVP.
Originally from Issaquah, Washington, she played two years of prep for Issaquah High School outside of Seattle and was selected second team All-King County as a sophomore. She finished high school at Brewster High School in north central Washington where she led her team to a 26-1 record and a state title. Averaging 16 points a game, she was selected first team All-Caribou League, second team All-Tournament and was the third leading scorer in the league.
"I really think Montana Tech is a great fit for me," said Landdeck. "The coaches are super easy to talk to and the school has my degree. I wanted to come here because I believe I could for sure have a successful career here with my team. I want to win a national championship and we could do just that here."
Landdeck plans on pursuing a degree in Business.
Hannah Sparks is also a junior college transfer arriving from Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff. Last season she started every game averaging 6.8 points and 2 points a game in 23 minutes of action. She shot 50.3 percent from the field. She was named Player of the Week twice and was named to the All-Tournament Team and Defensive All-Regional Team.
"Hannah is a quick, fast, combo guard. She is great going to the basket and finishing. She is a perfect fit into the up tempo style we play at Montana Tech."
Sparks attended high school in Aurora, Colorado where she was a two-time All-League selection and named second team All-State as a senior. Also a star on the track, she earned All-State honors twice.
"I chose Montana Tech because it is a really good fit for me," said Sparks. "I will be able to continue to pursue my education at a high quality college while playing a sport I love."
Sparks plans on pursuing a degree in Pre-Professional Health.
A familiar face to locals, Alex Rouse comes to Tech from Beaverhead County High School in Dillon. The four-year letterman earned first team All-Conference as a junior and senior and was named second team as a sophomore. As a senior, she averaged 9 points and four rebounds a game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 30 percent from three. She smashed the school record for most career three pointers with 138 (previous mark was 113).
"Alex is a great shooter and has a lot of upside," said VanDyke-Sanon. "She is a hard worker and we are excited she is going to be a part of our program."
Rouse was also selected All-Conference twice in volleyball and was named Academic All-Conference seven separate times. She plans on pursuing a degree in Biology.
The three additions brings VanDyke-Sanon's recruiting class to six total.
