Montana Tech Volleyball's Coaching Staff

Head Coach Marilyn Tobin
Marilyn Tobin, the first former Oredigger to take over the reins of the
Montana Tech Volleyball Program, is now entering her 18th year as Head
Coach. In the past 17 years, Marilyn has compiled an overall record of
272-287, with a 93-85 Frontier Conference record. She reached the 200th
win milestone during the 2003 season.
Prior to the Frontier Conference Tournament allowing all teams
to participate, Marilyn guided the Diggers to play-offs 8 out of 11 years. In 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006
she led the team to the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament, and had 20 or more wins in three of the
four seasons.
Coach Tobin has served as the Frontier Conference Volleyball Chair for 15 out of 17 years. She
also served as the District Volleyball Chair from 1991-1994 and the Pacific Northwest Regional Volleyball
Rater from 1995-2002. She was the Pacific Northwest Regional Volleyball Chair and National
Rater from 2003 to 2005.
A native of Casper, Wyoming, Marilyn was an All-Frontier Conference standout for Montana
Tech, and currently holds the Montana Tech single game record with 73 assists in a single match. Coach
Tobin also ranks second in Oredigger history with 1,278 assists in a single season.
Marilyn graduated with honors in 1988 earning a bachelor’s degree in Society and Technology.
She then served as an assistant in the Oredigger program before leaving the Mining City to join the staff
at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio. Marilyn earned her Master’s degree in Education while at Wright
State.

Assistant Coach Shaela Evenson
Shaela Evenson, a former Oredigger standout, is entering here sixth season
as the assistant coach and has been instrumental in the success of the
volleyball program. She helps with practice and game planning. She is
also in charge of off season conditioning and weight training, and Kids’
Night Out which is a fundraiser for the athletic program.
Shaela played both volleyball and basketball for Tech from 1995-1999. After graduating with
high honors in Applied Health Science in 2000, she was a mental health worker and recreational therapist
for Children’s Comprehensive Services. Along with her duties coaching volleyball, Shaela has been
teaching at Butte Central Junior High School since 2005.
