Sandpoint libero signs with Tech
May 7, 2007
Savanna Lester of Sandpoint, Idaho, is the first recruit of 2007 for the Montana Tech volleyball team, Oredigger Coach Marilyn Tobin announced this week.
Lester, a 5’5” libero who plans on majoring in applied health science, was the MVP of her high school team last fall. She was named Sandpoint High School’s best defensive player the past three seasons. “We are very fortunate to sign a quality person and player like Savanna, Tobin said. “She is a tremendous back row player with excellent passing and defensive skills. She will certainly make our team better with her ball control skills.”
Lester earned defensive player of the year honors for the 4A and 5A schools in the Inland Empire League in 2005 and 2006. She was on the all-conference team the last three seasons and has been a team captain the last two.
In 2005, Lester set a Sandpoint and league record with 466 digs when she was the only junior nominated for the North Idaho Volleyball Player of the Year award. She broke her own record the next season with 627 digs.
As a senior, Lester led Sandpoint to the Inland Empire title, the state championship, and received the sports-man of the year award. She also was nominated again and received the North Idaho Player of the year award.
