Tech Women's Basketball signs
Oregon City recruit for 2007-08

BUTTE– Montana Tech women’s basketball head coach Brian Holsinger  announced the first early signing for the class of 2007-2008 on Tuesday at the HPER. Becca Schuh, a guard from Oregon City, Oregon signed a national letter of intent to play next season for the Orediggers.  Schuh is the first early recruit announced by the Tech coaching staff for the 2007-08 season.

Whitworth swishes past Tech

SPOKANE, Wash. — Sophomore forward Tiffany Corigliano scored a career high 17 points to lead Whitworth past visiting Montana Tech 67-61 in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Monday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The host Pirates improved to 3-0 by winning their home opener against the Orediggers (4-2), an NAIA Division I team from Butte that has dropped two straight since a perfect start.

Tech women fall to Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Shooting 63 percent in the second half, the Whitman women’s basketball team erased a one-point halftime deficit and rolled to a season-opening 76-57 victory over Montana Tech Friday night in Sherwood Center. The loss was the first of the season for the Orediggers, who had opened their schedule with four consecutive wins, except for an exhibition loss at NCAA Division I Eastern Washington.

The Missionaries, who led by as many as 23 points late in the game, shot 57 percent for the game on the strength of 24 assists. The effort offset a 25-point performance by Montana Tech guard Angela Gimeno, who hit five 3-point shots during her spree.

Tech women defeat Bobcats

BOZEMAN — Montana Tech handed the Montana State women’s basketball squad a 66-57 setback in the season-opener for the Bobcats Sunday afternoon in Worthington Arena.

Rebecca Gimeno notched a game-high 19 points and ten rebounds to pace the Orediggers.

“We had prepared well the entire week, but when it came time to play we weren’t ready,” said second-year head coach Tricia Binford. “We need to identify why we didn’t come ready. We need to do a much better job of preparing ourselves, mentally.

“Montana Tech wanted it more.”

E. Washington downs Tech women

SPOKANE — The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team claimed its season-opening contest by a 75-69 score over Montana Tech after breaking away from a 67-all tie with 2:02 remaining. The game was played on Friday at Spokane Community College.

In a very even contest statistically (EWU shot 42.9 percent, while the Orediggers shot at a 41.8 percent clip), the Eagles’ leading point scorer was Joanna Chadd, who tallied 16 points. Also in double digits were Brittney Osborn (14) and Katy Baker (13).

Rebecca Gimeno, a Spokane product, had 11 points in the first half for Montana Tech. The half ended in a 34-all tiel Leading rebounders for Eastern were Baker (7), Osborn (5) and Jessica Huntington (5).

Frontier Conference Names Basketball Players of the Week

BillingsPlayers from Lewis and Clark and Montana Tech were selected as Frontier Conference Players of the Week.

Women’s Player of the Week:

Angela Gimeno, Montana Tech, 5’6”, sophomore guard from Spokane, Wash. Montana Tech went 2-0 at the National Guard Classic in Helena, Mont.  Tech downed Warner Pacific 85-76 and Cascade College 86-61. For the weekend, Gimeno average 22 points and three rebounds per game. She hit 64 percent of her field goals and 60 percent of her three-point field goals. Gimeno was named the MVP of the National Guard Classic. Also nominated DeLayne Johnston of MSU-Northern and Meghan Schwantes of he University of Great Falls

Montana Tech women win again

HELENA — Sophomore guard Angela Gimeno scored 26 points Saturday afternoon to lead the Montana Tech women’s basketball ton 85-61 victory over Cascade College of Portland, Ore.

The game was part of the Carroll College tournament.

The win lifted the Orediggers to 3-0, and three Tech players scored in double digits, and nine scored overall.

Tech women move to 2-0

HELENA — The new-look Montana Tech women’s basketball team is 2-0 after Friday’s 85-76 win over Warner Pacific College at the Carroll College tournament.

Jenessa Todd, Angela Gimeno and Andrea Thomas all scored 18 points to lead the Orediggers.

Rebecca Gimeno added 14 points, and nine different Tech players dented the score book.

Nicole Brown tossed in 31 points to pace Warner Pacific, a college in Portland, Ore.

Tech women ’s basketball team records first victory season

It was a typical season opener. With 41 fouls, three players fouling out, and several others checking and rechecking with coaches about their positions, both the Montana Tech and the University of Lethbridge women’s basketball teams were trying desperately to get into their groove. Montana Tech outlasted the Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Montana Tech HPER by the score of 76 to 61 in the Orediggers’ season debut.

Tech begins season against Lethbridge

College basketball, inching closer and closer toward the Fourth of July for its season start, will tip off for Montana Tech on Friday night in the college’s HPER Complex.

The Orediggers men’s and women’s teams will debut against Lethbridge (Alberta) Univesity in a twin bill. The women’s game is to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8.

The signing of eight recruits was announced Wednesday by Montana Tech head women’s basketball coach Brian Holsinger.

The coach said the new additions to the program are 5-foot-11 wing Jessie DePell of Spokane, 6-1 forward Jenessa Todd of Denton, 5-7 guard Becky Roll of Forsyth, 6-2 post Teresa Merrill of Glendive, 5-8 wing Jenna Tintzman of Corvallis, 6-0 post Natalie Shaw of Colfax, Wash., 6-1 post Holly Hanson of Winnett and 6-1 wing Adrea Thomas of Oreana, Idaho.
